No Justice

No Justice

Summary:

A tough, notorious cop. A vulnerable, confused transsexual. An unsolved death. Was there a link?

This is the case that is still being investigated following two inquests and millions of dollars. It has also ruined several lives.

On 19 July 1995, two young men stumbled upon a partially clothed skeleton, wearing lingerie, high-heeled boots and jewellery, in a disused mineshaft near Bonnie Doon,Victoria.

The sensational find was identified as the remains of transsexual Melbourne prostitute Adele Bailey, who had been missing for more than 17 years. How did Adele Bailey die, and why was her body hidden in a forgotten mineshaft?

Was there a connection between Adele Bailey and country housewife Jenny Tanner who had been killed on a nearby property? The police think so.They believe the connection is one of their own former members, who was Jenny Tanner’s brother-in-law and one of Australia’s most notorious policemen, Detective Sergeant Denis Tanner.

Robin Bowles, the bestselling author of Blind Justice and Justice Denied, delves into the sordid 1970s underworld in which Adele Bailey lived and Denis Tanner worked; a world of drugs, prostitution and corruption, where cops and robbers played by the same unwritten rules.

The murderers have not been found – but they are known. Will justice prevail and the guilty be prosecuted? Until then, there will be no justice for the innocent.

“Robin is an enthusiastic and courageous writer and commentator…she is thorough, appropriately inquisitive and scornful of legal and journalistic conventions”.
